What We Do
It was the Fall of 2015
and we were just a few friends dreaming out loud over a series of potlucks. We all came to the table with a strong passion for sustainable farming, resilient local food sheds, and an array of organic, homemade masterpieces. ;) We each knew farming was in our future one way or another. Despite our full-time jobs, a baby on the way, and a general tendency to over-commit, we figured, why wait any longer?
After seeking out the best soil we could find in the area, we landed upon the lower field of Rosewater Ranch, just West of Bordertown, in the Northwest foothills of Peavine Mountain.
. We were swept away by the richness of the soil and the majestic Eastern Sierra views.
Prema Farm (pronounced "pr-emma") was born shortly thereafter.
Prema Farm is a 1.5 acre, local, certified organic, no-till farm offering diverse and high-quality vegetables to the Truckee Meadows area. We grow vegetables and flowers without the use of pesticides, herbicides, or artificial fertilizers. Through our no-till practices, we strive to support natural carbon sequestration, water conservation, and wildlife preservation while simultaneously serving our community the highest quality vegetables the soil can offer.
Most of our produce reaches consumers through our CSA membership (weekly farm boxes) and two local Farmer's Markets. We also sell produce through the Great Basin Community Food Co-op, and a handful of local restaurants such as Perenn Bakery, Claio, Liberty Food & Wine Exchange, DOPO Pizza & Pasta, Genesse Store and many others.
What We Grow
As a newer farm positioned in a unique valley at 5200 feet, we continue to explore our boundaries and experiment with a wide variety of crops—both commonly known and relatively unknown. We're fortunate in that Reno has proven to be a curious region, with chefs and CSA members alike interested in trying exotic varieties and flavors. In short,
we grow whatever the mountains
let us grow!
